I tried the ponytail method here (put your hair on a ponytail on the top of your head, hold your hair straight up, and cut a line straight across. I found a video of this on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNzLZ7H7F... It was a little difficult to do only because my hair is really thick, but it's also curly so it hides any minor imperfections from the cut. I also parted my hair down the middle, pulled the two sections forward, and trimmed a bit more off the length. Then I layered the front sections a bit more. It looks pretty good.

Be patient and go slow, it's best to cut off less than you might want just in case you make a mistake. I'll probably end up doing this again as I want the length a little shorter. Good luck!

I would suggest not doing that.

Trust me, its a pain in the butt when you dont get it right, and if you dont have the right expierence or tools, it turns out looking like your little sister (or brother) got bored in the middle of the night and decided to cut your hair.

Go see a professional stylist, and if money's the issue, there are places that will do it for as little as 20 dollars.

like im sure a lot of other people are saying...its NOT good idea to cut your own hair. the front may look right, but you can never really see the back. You need special scissots, not the office kind..and theres a technique - you cant just cut your hair like you would cut paper. If you ask me, the money is really worth it if you want to get it cut. But I do understand the anxieties, because some hair stylists don't listen to how you want it cut because they think what their doing is better...but I would ask around what are some good barbers in town. I've had to go through a lot of hairstylists before I found the perfect one for me. He's great. LOL =] good luck

Someone said howtodothings.com, I went there and no kidding found the greatest thing ever. Cut your hair in 3 easy steps on your own, 1 - put your head upside down brush all of it into a pony tail on the very top middle of your head. 2 - brush the ponytail up 3 - hold the hair straight up and cut directly across. The shorter you cut it the more drastic the layers and the shorter your hair will be. I did it to see how it would look and my hair looks gorgeous! Why pay all that money. Anyone could do this.
